CRISIS PREVENTION
Crisis prevention services provided by the St. Joseph Youth Alliance are some of the most critical services provided by the organization. The Alliance provides families and youth with support, resources, and hope for a better future through many avenue, but primarily through local partnerships designed to prevent or eliminate family and community violence, and through home visits and group meetings provided through the Family Connections program. Often early intervention results in a better outcome. Therefore, the St. Joseph Youth Alliance serves as a resource to link families to appropriate and timely services and resources to help families avoid major crises.

Every day in Missouri, 125 children are reported abused or neglected (Kids Count in Missouri 2009 Data Book). Children need you to prevent child abuse and neglect. You can play an active role in ending child abuse and neglect. They key is speaking up. When you see or suspect child abuse, don’t look the other way.
Help us stop the hurt. Report any suspected case of child abuse and neglect to the Children’s Division Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-392-3738.
Our Caring Communities initiative also identifies gaps in services and engages community partners to address the issues. Examples are the Northwest Missouri Respite Care Task Force and the St. Joseph Community Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention.
Family Connections - is a child abuse and neglect prevention program that features home visitation services for stay at home parents with at least one child under age 3. Family Connections helps parents enhance their skills and monitor their children’s physical and social-emotional health and well being. Families complete questionnaires to determine their goals, and are connected to the resources and assistance they need to accomplish their goals and to reduce family stress. As an expert on their child, parents are partners in assessing a child’s developmental and social progress, administered with a goal of early intervention when milestones are not being met.
